One of our main goals is to teach the youth in our communities’ valuable skills that they can translate into a lasting career in the trades, so when the opportunity arose to partner with the Brown County 4-H club, we happily accepted. The 4-H organization aligns closely with our mission: “4‑H empowers young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime” (4-H). It’s easy to see why combining the Big Ideas mission with the 4-H mission made perfect sense.

Big Ideas + 4-H Welding Club

We have partnered with the Brown County 4-H Club to create the 4-H Welding Club! This club is open to students from grades 9-12 and courses include:

  • Outstanding instruction from active welding tradesmen
  • Projects can be shown at Brown County Fair, with opportunity to advance to State Fair competition
  • Opportunity to meet and converse other students interested in skilled trades

This club has many more benefits and is open to all skill levels. Classes will cover welding safety rules and teach basic welding and shop concepts. Machine setup and successful use of the MIG welder will be covered, and instructors will also introduce students to all areas of welding: MIG, TIG and ARC/Stick.

The Class Details

The 4-H Welding Club will meet Saturday mornings from 9:00-11:00am starting January 18th until February 22nd. We will meet at the New Ulm Public High School and closed-toe shoes and 100% cotton shirts are required. Each class is only $10 making the entire series an affordable $60.
