Wow!
May was a busy month. We had 17 Mobile Learning Lab events all over Minnesota.
A very special event was the SCC Car Show. We had a great time seeing all the cars and trucks and talking about all the work that goes into them. Our Mobile Lab was on site and we offered people the chance to try out virtual reality welding and paint coating before they do the real thing on their automobiles!
During our event at the Kato Public Charter School, we met this great student, Heaven!
Are you looking for a way to help Big Ideas but not sure how?
The State Fair is our most intense event of the year; 12-hour days, twelve days in a row.
During the fair, we provide thousands of people just like Heaven, with opportunities to discover, explore and learn more about real-world trades. We aim to inform people of all ages about the multitude of benefits the trades offer. By being a volunteer, you get the chance to inspire people to find a rewarding path in their lives.
Will you help us connect fairgoers to the rewards of the skilled trades?
You don’t need any experience with Big Ideas, we can give you a short training on us. What we are really looking for are volunteers who are working in, or involved with, the trades and want to make an impact now and in the future. If you are someone who says “we just can’t find good help” join our mission and help inspire the next generation!
Since we are a small staff, we must rely on amazing volunteers like you to make this major event a success. We are looking for dependable people to help cover various shifts over the 12 days of the fair. Each day is separated into two 6-hour shifts. The morning shift is from 9 am to 3 pm and the afternoon shift is from 2:30 pm to 9 pm. We are looking for individuals or pairs of people to work just one shift per day and if possible, a few days of the course of the State Fair.
Don’t worry you won’t be alone!
Each shift will have a Big Ideas staff member, to help you answer questions and direct people if needed. You can volunteer with a friend, partner, or coworker!
Groups of 2 or 3 per shift work very well. That way you can take time before or after your shift to meander through the fair together. Did I mention we will pay for your ticket?
Along with your entry ticket, Big Ideas will have a breakroom area that will have food, snacks, and refreshments for you during each shift. Of course, most volunteers can’t resist the temptation to find that special something on a stick!
If you or someone you know could become a volunteer, we are looking for up to 30 volunteers which is only 10 to 15 groups of two or three.
